Visual Artist and Educator

As far as I can remember, I have considered myself to be creative. I was one of those kids who sat quietly and content in their own world, making doodles and sketches of the things that I saw around me.

It was not until I'd graduated high school, that I considered myself an artist. I continued to learn and refine my skills. In college, I had many opportunities to work with amazing art educators, all of whom inspired me to be empathetic, organized, and open-minded.

As an artist, I take inspiration from the natural world. In my work, I explore themes of the ocean, forest critters, and cherished family pets. I love to experiment with new mediums so I consider myself a multi-media artist. I adore printmaking because I can combine many mediums and skill sets to build a visually rich composition.

Art is my passion, but what pushed me to become an educator was the lack of representation that I saw in the school systems that raised me. I had some very wonderful and very inspiring teachers throughout my experience as a student, but they never looked like me or had the same life experiences as me. As an afro-Latina, it's so important to me that I take this opportunity to reach as many students of color as possible and show them that they can be anything that they want to be and make anything they want to make!
